NAMI is built in Windhoek by Amateta Technology & Graphics CC. Small team, unusually wide scope, and a product people in this country actually use.
What it is like
We are a small team running a full streaming platform: catalogue, transcoding, CDN, billing, apps on four kinds of screen. That means less specialisation than you would get at a large company and more ownership than you would get anywhere.
We care about work that holds up — code that another person can read next year, copy that says what it means, and features that are finished rather than demonstrated. If you like shipping things that stay shipped, you will recognise the place.
Most of the team is in Windhoek. We work with people elsewhere in Namibia and across the continent where the role allows it.
The work we do
Backend and platform
PHP and Laravel, MySQL, queues and scheduled work, payment gateway integrations, and the entitlement rules that decide who may watch what.
Web and mobile
Next.js and React on the web, Flutter on Android and iOS, and the player work that sits underneath both — adaptive bitrate, resume, subtitles.
Media engineering
FFmpeg pipelines, bitrate ladders, packaging, CDN behaviour, and making a 1080p master arrive intact on a phone with two bars of signal.
Content and curation
Acquiring titles, clearing rights territory by territory, writing the copy members read, and building the rows that make a catalogue feel edited rather than dumped.
Member support
Answering the people who paid us. This is not a junior function at NAMI — support sees every defect first and is expected to say so.
Design
Interface, artwork standards and the brand itself. A streaming service lives or dies on whether the catalogue looks worth watching.
